Tesco Neighbourhood Food Collection

This month, Tesco will be holding its fifth Neighborhood Food Collection campaign, with support from the Trussell Trust and FareShare. In stores across the country, Tesco shoppers will be encouraged to donate extra food to be collected and distributed to food banks for the needy this holiday season. Last July, this collection was able to provide 5.1 meals to the hungry. The first weeklong collection will be held between Monday 24th and Saturday 29th November. Jon Cruddas MP for Dagenham and Rainham, continues to support this campaign, as he has during past collections.

Unfortunately, since the Tory-led government came into power, food banks have increasingly become a necessity in Dagenham and Rainham, now numbering in the double figures. These food banks and those who volunteer in them provide a vital service to the community, but there is not always enough food for everyone who has a need. Each week, Jon Cruddas's constituency office hears at least one new request for a food parcel and these requests are only growing in frequency.

Jon Cruddas MP, who works closely with all local food banks, thanks Tesco for all of their hard work in this and past collections and commends the work of the Trussell Trust and FareShare in providing food to those struggling across the country.

Jon commented: "Projects like the Neighbourhood Food Collection have become increasingly important, particularly in Dagenham, Rainham, South Hornchurch and Elm Park. Tesco have done great work in the past in providing meals for local people struggling to make ends meet, and I hope many will get involved supporting the collection this year."
