Jon Cruddas MP received some exciting news last week for the young people of Havering. Extra funding has been provided by the Mayor of London for the Young Londoner Fund. The Mayor’s Office just announced a further £13.2m of Young Londoners Fund grants across 72 projects.

The Mayor has created the Young Londoners Fund to help London’s children and young adults make the most of our amazing city. The Mayor's new Young Londoners Fund will help children and young people to fulfil their potential, particularly those at risk of getting caught up in crime.

London Fire Brigade are currently recruiting Fire Cadets aged 14-17 and Adult Volunteers aged 18+ at units across London.

Fire Cadets is a free, nationally recognised programme offering young people between the ages of 14 and 17 the opportunity to gain a credible qualification as well as develop their personal skills. Cadets must be able to dedicate one night a week for a fire cadets meeting - Tuesday at the Harold Hill fire station or Thursday at the Barking and Dagenham fire station depending where you live. They will also have to be prepared to work in a team.

Are you looking for a local event for you and your family this summer? The Family Adventures Fun Day is an event being hosted by Barking and Dagenham Council. The local authority, over the last few years, have run events that celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the borough. The events are designed to celebrate the diversity in the community.

The total number of unemployed claimants in Dagenham and Rainham constituency in September 2016 was 1,612. This represents a rate of 3.2% of the economically active population aged 16 to 64, the 174th highest of the 650 UK constituencies. (1st = highest claimant rate, 650th = lowest claimant rate.) The equivalent UK claimant rate was 2.4%.

Young Carers are young people aged 8-18 years who care for a relative.

They may live in a family where someone is affected by a long term illness, disability, mental health issue, alcohol or substance misuse or HIV. The Young Carers Service supports Young Carers in Barking & Dagenham and Thurrock. On Friday 8th July local councillors played the role of dragons in a 'Dragons Den' competition with a difference. Rather than judging business proposals from budding entrepreneurs, Barking and Dagenham councillors watched and listened to local young people pitching their ideas for community campaigns and volunteering projects.

Jon Cruddas, MP for Dagenham and Rainham, was pleased to attend the Universal Peace Foundation’s Youth Achievement Awards 2016 honouring young leaders at an event in Parliament last month. He was very grateful to have the opportunity to honour his constituent Natasha Doughty and other young achievers that well deserved recognition for their dedication and hard work.

The equivalent UK claimant rate was 2.5%.

This includes 1,460 people claiming Jobseeker's Allowance and 169 people who were claiming Universal Credit but were not in employment. Some of these Universal Credit claimants may no longer be seeking work.

Last year on 27th November Jon Cruddas MP for Dagenham & Rainham attended the Dagenham PC Boxing Club’s boxing show. The event was held at Dagenham & Redbridge Football Club.

Jon Cruddas was invited by Club Secretary Dan O’Sullivan as a guest of honour.

Last week Jon Cruddas MP for Dagenham & Rainham visited one of the Bright Community Free Maths Centres located at Dagenham Heathway Library.

There are currently four such centres across the borough, offering free maths tuition to young children hoping to stimulate, encourage and enhance the student’s interest in Mathematics at the formative stage.
