This week Cadent contacted Jon Cruddas MP to provide information for their upcoming gas mains replacement Scheme at Ballard's Road, Dagenham. Although this will inevitably cause a few disruptions to the daily lives of residents the mains are being replaced as part of the Health & Safety Executive government mandated Scheme.

Jon Cruddas MP has welcomed the introduction from 11 May of a Heavy Goods Vehicle ban on lorries over 7.5-ton weight in Rainham Village. This will also have a positive impact on HGV traffic passing through Wennington Village.

The ban will be enforced by the introduction of a CCTV camera and is designed to stop the lorries travelling through Rainham village, Upminster Road South and Wennington Road. Lorries that are not exempt from the ban will be subject to Penalty Charge Notices if they drive through the area.

Long suffering residents of Wennington Village in Rainham have responded overwhelmingly in favour of measures to control HGVs plaguing their lives. Jon Cruddas MP issued a survey to all residents of the village in response to local people contacting him about the problems they face with lorry traffic cutting through the village. Issues raised with the MP included nuisance noise, vibrations which can be felt in properties, and damage to the road surfacing.

This week Jon Cruddas MP has been contacted by a number of Rainham residents living on Wennington Road, all raising their concerns about the increase in dangerous driving and speeding along the road.

Jon has contacted Havering Council on behalf of residents, citing instances where dirt bikes are often driven recklessly on the wrong side of the road weaving among the existing small speed bumps, and cars regularly breaking the 20mph speed limit already in place on the residential road.

Due to essential restructuring and resurfacing repairs, closures are planned on Gallows Corner flyover which will take place on the following dates:

- Monday 19 August – Friday 23 August (09:30-20:00)

- Monday 26 August – Friday 30 August (09:30-20:00)

During this time the flyover will be closed. Access underneath the flyover will be maintained, however, we expect Gallows Corner roundabout to be extremely busy with delays of up to 30 minutes during the busiest times in the evening peak.

Late May bank holiday will see the demolition and replacement of the western side of Ardleigh Green Bridge in Hornchurch. Demolition works will take place from 21:00 on Friday 25th of May 2018 until 05:00 on Tuesday 29th of May. Delivery of the new bridge will take place overnight on Friday 1st and Saturday 2nd of June between 21:00 and 08:00 the following morning.

During this time there will be some temporary road closures:

Yesterday evening a man in his twenties was killed in a traffic accident near the Eastbrook pub, Dagenham. There have been a number of accidents relating to vehicles on this particular stretch of road over the years, which spans from the Eastbrook pub to just past Eastbrook Comprehensive School. Back at the end of 2015 former council leader and local resident Charlie Fairbrass MBE was knocked down and hospitalised by a vehicle.

Recently Jon Cruddas MP for Dagenham and Rainham was contacted by Highways England to confirm that improvements between M25 junction 30 and the A13 are now open to traffic. An extra lane has been added on the A13 between the A126 and junction 30, to increase capacity an alleviate congestion.

The good news for drivers is that the extra capacity offered by this scheme is open in time for Christmas, and should help improve shopping trips to major destinations such as Bluewater and Lakeside.

Jon Cruddas MP: "Over the past few weeks many parents have come forward to express their growing concern regarding the parking and traffic flow around Rainham schools during school time. I need your help and views on what's best for the area to help alleviate the problem."
