Secret Cinema are offering work experience in the creative arts to young people living or studying in Barking and Dagenham. The opportunity is open to people aged between 18 – 25 and will consist of a placement over two nights working on their current immersive experience in Dagenham East.

 

The City of London Corporation recently announced that Barking and Dagenham had secured the bid to be the new home of Billingsgate, Smithfield and New Spitalfields markets. The markets are iconic London landmarks that have been a central part of trade for hundreds of years. 

On Tuesday 18th of September Havering College launched of their ‘Plumbing Centre of Excellence.’ The project is supported by SoPHE, The Society of Public Health Engineers, and its Contractors and Manufacturers Forums, CIPHE, Chartered Institute of Plumbing and Heating Engineers and JTL.

The aim is to create and develop professional and employable students with a strong desire to progress within this industry. Havering College is in a unique position by being the first FE College in London to bring to fruition the Centre of Excellence concept for plumbing.

Barking and Dagenham College (BDC) will be hosting a skills show experience on the 30th April. If you are between 14 -25 years old and thinking about the next steps into employment or your future career path, this is an event for you.

The free event is linked to The Skills Show which is the nation’s largest career and skills event and gives young people from East London a taste of the national event on their doorstep.

 

Students and staff at Barking’s new Technical Skills Academy welcomed shadow chancellor Ed Balls MP to its official opening on Thursday 18th October. Mr Balls praised the facility along with local MP for Dagenham and Rainham, Jon Cruddas. The new facilities provide vocational training and education for young people aged 16 to 19. The £14 million centre is a joint venture between the borough council and Barking & Dagenham College.
