Jon Cruddas' June column for the Barking and Dagenham Post and Romford Recorder. Published the week commencing Monday 11 June.

I don't think I can ever recall a more divided Government than the current Tory one - with Cabinet members routinely stabbing each other in the front, and the back.

The Brexit debate does throw up strong emotions, but most people in communities like ours just want to get on with it.

This week the Government have announced that community pharmacies will face a 12% cut on current funding levels for the rest of this financial year, and a 7.4% cut on current levels the year after.

The pharmacy sector expect the effect of these cuts to be devastating and the government Minister previously responsible for pharmacy funding estimated earlier this year that up to 3,000, a quarter of all pharmacies, could close because of these cuts.

As part of the programme of activities to engage young people and raise political awareness, the PSA runs an annual short film competition open to all students. This year the competition will be open to young people studying in the 2015-16 academic year. The deadline for entries is Friday 16th October and full details can be found here:

Since then Jon Cruddas MP has been coordinating an independent inquiry into why Labour lost. The aim of the inquiry is to find out why Labour lost so that it can effectively rebuild by addressing the issues that it failed to address in the build up to May 2015.

"This is a challenge to both left and right to develop a more generous politics and public conversation. As leader of Labour’s policy review, I’ve learned a lot from it" - to read the full response from Jon Cruddas MP click HERE
