Jon Cruddas is backing a Bill being introduced by Labour MP Karen Buck this Friday 19 January which will give renters a new legal right to ensure their home is ‘fit for human habitation’.

The new legislation, long campaigned for by Labour, could help renters in thousands of dangerously unfit properties across London.

The national housing crisis continues to worsen in the capital. According to recently collected data, there are currently 738 houses in Havering that have been purposefully built for temporary accommodation, including 80 places in hostels. This is a 30 percent increase over the past 5 years, with 3 million pounds spent towards these temporary accommodations. 

This week Jon Cruddas MP for Dagenham and Rainham, incorporating South Hornchurch and Elm Park spoke in Parliament regarding the long standing and ongoing issues at Orchard Village, formerly the Mardyke Estate in South Hornchurch.
