Ford’s three-millionth UK-built small-capacity diesel engine has rolled off the line at Ford’s state-of-the-art manufacturing centre at Dagenham. Low-carbon diesel engines have been built at the Dagenham Diesel Centre plant for a variety of models across the Ford range, and for other manufacturers, since production started in May 2007.

Tesco have recently been in touch with Jon Cruddas MP regarding their current job vacancies. They are looking for experienced drivers who are ‘willing to roll up their sleeves and get things done’. The positions are on full-time permanent contracts and applicants are required to hold a C + E license with no restrictions. The job pays £30-£34k per annum with premiums paid for unsociable working hours and time and a half for Bank Holidays/overtime.

This represents a rate of 4.9% of the economically active population aged 16 to 64, the 178th highest of the 650 UK constituencies. (1st = highest rate of unemployment, 650th = lowest rate of unemployment.)

The latest statistics are very positive and could mark a turning point in the local economy. This month Dagenham and Rainham has the lowest rate of claimants since 2010. However there is still work to be done.

This represents a rate of 6.4% of the economically active population aged 16 to 64, the 139th highest of the 650 UK constituencies. Asda is opening a new store in Whalebone Lane, Chadwell Heath at the end of October and Barking and Dagenham Council, along with the Jobcentre Plus, will be running presentation sessions to local residents who are interested in applying for work at the new store.

This represents a rate of 7.2% of the economically active population aged 16 to 64, the 115th highest of the 650 UK constituencies.
