Special events for local people to have their say about healthcare

Patients and local residents are being invited to attend three 'listening events' hosted by Barking, Havering and Redbridge University Hospitals NHS Trust and the national consumer champion for health and social care, Healthwatch.

The listening events, which will take place in September and October across Barking, Dagenham, Havering and Redbridge, are being held so that local people can raise issues and put their questions to Trust staff.

One-year cancer survival rates in the borough are lowest in the region

A recent publication has shown cancer survival rates in the UK to be low in comparison to neighbouring countries in Europe. The average one-year survival rate for the UK is 68 per cent, as a country with a long established and respectable National Health Service these statistics are not as good as they should be. At the moment, the UK lags far behind its international and European neighbours in cancer survival. By 2020, almost half of people will receive a cancer diagnosis during their lifetime.

Consultation on making intermediate care better

Recently the Havering and Barking & Dagenham Clinical Commissioning Groups (CCG) contacted Jon Cruddas about their launch of a public consultation in Barking and Dagenham, Havering and Redbridge on ‘making intermediate care better’. Intermediate care is the specialised care that is provided to people in their own homes to prevent them from needing to go or stay longer in hospitals. These services can also be provided in residential homes and community rehab units.

GP Funding Boost for Dagenham and Rainham

GP’s in Barking and Dagenham and Havering, with the support of local MP Jon Cruddas, have successfully applied for a £5.6M grant to implement improved access to services and to further support complex care needs.   

This additional funding will help services look at how best to meet the needs of patients. As everyone knows, local health services are under real pressure, and GPs are determined to do their bit to help improve care for patients in the local community.

This was the launch meeting of an extensive cost of living consultation across Dagenham and Rainham. Jon Cruddas launched the public consultation to find out what is at the heart of the problems affecting local people across his constituency. The first meeting was held at the top of the constituency in Chadwell Heath ward, Marks Gate.
