Last night there was an overwhelming response at my public consultation meeting; over six hundred people attended which led to us having to hold two consecutive meetings in the May & Baker Eastbrook Community Club.

MP supports petition to save last bank in Elm Park

Local MP Jon Cruddas has been contacted by many constituents in the past few weeks with regards to the planned closure of the local Lloyds TSB in Elm Park at the parade of shops by the station. A significant number of residents in Elm Park have petitioned against the closure of the branch; which is the only bank in the local parade and the surrounding area.

This year has been a turbulent journey for Dagenham & Rainham with the local authority suffering even more cuts to services from the government, which has impacted hard on people that live and work in the local area. Throughout the year I have opposed the cuts, starting the year with the fight to save the Dagenham Civic Centre. 

Volunteer Success Story

Back in 2011/12 local resident Dean Haxell was made redundant due to the closure of the Remploy factory in Barking which offered employment to workers with disabilities. The closure of the factory had a huge impact locally and Jon Cruddas MP fought the closures at the time.

Jon Cruddas MP responds to Ingrebourne Hill plans

An appeal is being made on Thursday 17th December by Ingrebourne Valley Ltd to push through the earlier rejected and opposed plans to extend landfill and build a processing plant on the greenbelt at Ingrebourne Hill in Rainham and South Hornchurch. Jon Cruddas MP, on behalf of the local residents has submitted the below statement for consideration at the hearing.

London schools financial crisis

London schools are facing unprecedented cuts of £760m a year by 2020. This is on top of the last five years of education cuts that removed support services for schools and cut sixth form funding by ten percent.  Education spending has been cut twice before, the highest cuts being 4% between 1982 and 1985. The Tories are now proposing to cut education spending by 8% nationally and 12% In London. Spending cuts in Barking and Dagenham specifically would total 13%.

Ingrebourne Hill update

Back in 2014 Jon Cruddas MP for Dagenham & Rainham was contacted by local residents with their concerns about the purchase of land at Ingrebourne Hill from the council for the extension of the existing waste fill site. The decision has been met with ongoing resistance.

Being one of few untouched green spaces in the local area, both residents and local Councillors as well as Jon Cruddas MP raised the issue.

Unfortunately the initial decision was taken and passed by Havering council.

Christmas Card Prize Event 2015

This year’s Christmas card competition prize giving event was another huge success; with more schools and children taking part than ever before. There were also more business sponsors this year than ever which allowed Jon and his team to make the competition prizes bigger and better than ever before. The overall winner Kamila Andziulyte from Marsh Green Primary School was asked what she wanted for Christmas up to £250 – she chose a top of the range 16gb Samsung Galaxy Tablet PC.

Melville and Cowper Roads resident parking update

Earlier this year Jon Cruddas secured the implementation of a resident parking scheme on both Melville and Cowper Road in Rainham Village. Since then the residents of the roads have been contacting Jon’s office to enquire when work will start.

International Day of People with Disability 2015

This Thursday 3rd December is International Day of People with Disability and will mark the 13th year of raising awareness in the borough. As this is the 50th anniversary of the London Borough of Barking & Dagenham there will be a special theme for the day. This year will see the Barking and Dagenham Progress Project highlight 50 years of disability access, health and social care, benefits, education and sport.
