The reports of closure early in the New Year of the Spring Farm GP surgery in Upminster Road North have brought about protests from local residents.

Last week, Havering’s Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) announced that Mungo Park Surgery based in South Hornchurch Health Centre is due to close. This move will mean that 3,149 local people will now have to travel between 2-4 miles further to see a GP. Last year walk-in services at the Health Centre were dramatically reduced and Jon Cruddas MP has raised his concerns about the decline in local NHS provisions.

The Health Centre which is planned for the former St. George’s Hospital site in Hornchurch received a £17m cash injection this week bringing the facility one step closer for the community.

Jon Cruddas MP who represents Rainham, South Hornchurch and Elm Park – the latter of which borders the proposed site has welcomed this news saying “whilst the £1.8bn funding boost from the government doesn’t even scratch the surface of what is needed to restore the NHS nationally, I am very pleased that some of this investment will reach residents in my constituency.”
