This Thursday there will be a debate in parliament regarding government support for the arts. The debate was scheduled after over 175,000 people across the country signed a petition urging the Department for Culture, Media and Sport to increase their Covid-19 support package.

 

The number of unemployed claimants in Dagenham and Rainham constituency in August 2020 was 6,665. This represents a rate of 9.5% of the economically active population aged 16 to 64. The equivalent UK claimant rate was 6.5%.

There are 3,920 more claimants than in March 2020 before the UK lockdown began and 310 more claimants than July 2020.

 

The number of unemployed claimants in Dagenham and Rainham constituency in July 2020 was 6,445. This represents a rate of 9.2% of the economically active population aged 16 to 64. The equivalent UK claimant rate was 6.3%.

There are 3,710 more claimants than in March 2020 before the UK lockdown began and 345 more claimants than June 2020.

 

Up to 31st May 2020, 13,000 jobs had been furloughed through the Government's Job Retention Scheme in Dagenham and Rainham constituency, equivalent to around 19% of the population aged 16-64. 21% had been furloughed in the UK.

A further 7,300 claims were made to the Self Employment Income Support scheme, equivalent to 70% of the potentially eligible population.  This compares to a take up rate of 70% of the potentially eligible population in the UK as a whole.
