Many constituents have contacted Jon Cruddas MP over the last few days raising their concerns about the fire on Launders Lane, Rainham. The fire started on Friday and has continued throughout the weekend and into this week.

The grass fire spread to a pile of mixed waste and resulted in the fire covering five acres at its height. 70 firefighters and ten fire engines from Wennington, Hornchurch and Dagenham fire stations were deployed to the blaze and made ‘steady progress’, remaining at the scene throughout the weekend.

This week Jon Cruddas MP for Dagenham and Rainham has co-signed a letter calling for better fire safety and to ensure all tower blocks are liveable. The full text of the letter can be found HERE. In the aftermath of the Grenfell Tower fire last June, the government said “we cannot and will not ask people to live in unsafe homes” however not enough has been done for residents of tower blocks.
