Many constituents have contacted Jon Cruddas MP over the last few days raising their concerns about the fire on Launders Lane, Rainham. The fire started on Friday and has continued throughout the weekend and into this week.

The grass fire spread to a pile of mixed waste and resulted in the fire covering five acres at its height. 70 firefighters and ten fire engines from Wennington, Hornchurch and Dagenham fire stations were deployed to the blaze and made ‘steady progress’, remaining at the scene throughout the weekend.

London Fire Brigade are currently recruiting Fire Cadets aged 14-17 and Adult Volunteers aged 18+ at units across London.

Fire Cadets is a free, nationally recognised programme offering young people between the ages of 14 and 17 the opportunity to gain a credible qualification as well as develop their personal skills. Cadets must be able to dedicate one night a week for a fire cadets meeting - Tuesday at the Harold Hill fire station or Thursday at the Barking and Dagenham fire station depending where you live. They will also have to be prepared to work in a team.

As you may be aware there are works being held at Dagenham Fire Station, located on Rainham Road North, for the construction of a new and improved fire station. These works commenced on the 26th November 2014 and are anticipated to continue on until the end of 2015. The remodelling of the fire station, which is being led by Kier Construction, has already seen great progress as most of the demolition works have been finished.
