Earlier this year Dagenham United Charity organised Easter eggs to be delivered to the 150 children currently living in Butler Court, a homeless hostel in Dagenham. Normally during the festive season the charity organises hampers for struggling residents but this Christmas Councillor Margaret Mullane, one of the Trustees for Dagenham United Charity, is taking it a step further.

On Friday 1st December Jon Cruddas MP held his seventh annual Christmas card competition presentation event at the former Dagenham Civic Centre, now Coventry University London. All of the photo's from the event can be found on Jon's Facebook page:

Are you looking for a local event for you and your family this summer? The Family Adventures Fun Day is an event being hosted by Barking and Dagenham Council. The local authority, over the last few years, have run events that celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the borough. The events are designed to celebrate the diversity in the community.

Jon Cruddas MP for Dagenham and Rainham held his sixth annual Christmas Card Competition Prize Event last Friday at the Dagenham Civic Centre. The Council Chamber was transformed into Santa’s Grotto – and was full of presents which this year for the winners and runners up included some fantastic gifts! All the prizes were presented in front of a packed chamber by Jon Cruddas MP and Father Christmas.

It’s been almost a year since the Robert Jeyes Library was transformed into the Chadwell Heath Community Centre. Over the past 12 months the centre has become a hub for the local community and has held many fantastic events, including a visit this summer by her Royal Highness, Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Phillip.

Education is a huge issue which over the last few months has become increasingly important locally. With the rising need for more school places, the fight against academies and the recent teacher strikes, it is important that residents, parents and teachers get their say and are given a chance to understand the issues in more depth.

Today (Friday18th July) Jon Cruddas MP held his third annual volunteer thank you breakfast. This year 80 of Jon’s key volunteers in the area were treated to a full English at Dagenham and Redbridge Football Club.

From the start back in 2012 the volunteer network has grown to include over 1,900 local residents. The goal was to increase community engagement in Dagenham, Rainham, South Hornchurch and Elm Park where people were beginning to fall through the cracks that government cuts created locally.

The First Big Local Community Forum Reception for the North Meets South Big Local Area will take place on Wednesday 26th February at 7.30pm at the Marks Gate Community Centre. For more details click HERE

A group of five media and graphic design students from Barking and Dagenham College have been experiencing what it’s like to produce a short film, thanks to a special commission. The commission saw them film, conduct interviews and take all the photography at a prestigious event on Tuesday 14th May. The event was the Gazelle Colleges Group Summit at which speakers included Matthew Hancock, Minister for Skills, John Cridland CBE, Director General, CBI and Michael Davis, Chief Executive, UKCES.
