Jon Cruddas MP pledges to help end misery of cold homes in London.  The most recent Excess Winter Death figures have just been released and show that 3,094 in London died needlessly of the cold last winter, an increase of 20.3% on last year. The WASH campaign aims to highlight the desperate and unsafe coping strategies being adopted across the UK due to the misery of living in fuel poverty. The charity says it rejects the idea this should be normal in a country as wealthy as the UK and much more can be done to end fuel poverty and ‘preventable’ excess winter deaths and ill health.

The total number of unemployed claimants in Dagenham and Rainham constituency in November 2018 was 1,995.This represents a rate of 3.6% of the economically active population aged 16-64. The equivalent UK claimant rate was 3.0%. 

The number of claimants in Dagenham and Rainham constituency is 435 higher than November 2017 and 65 higher than October 2018. There were 375 claimants aged 18-24 in November 2018, 55 higher than November 2017.

Jon Cruddas MP for Dagenham and Rainham held his eighth annual Christmas Card Competition Prize Event earlier today at the old Dagenham Civic Centre, now Coventry University. With the help of this year’s 24 sponsors, the Chamber was transformed with balloons and Christmas music. All the prizes were presented in front of a packed room by Jon Cruddas MP and Father Christmas.

Jon Cruddas MP for Dagenham and Rainham has slammed Ministers for their latest approach to the violent crime crisis which is set to shift the responsibility for funding police resources to local government.  The Treasury and the Home Office have agreed to double the amount that councils can add to council tax bills to pay for policing from £1 per month to £2 per month. 

This week Jon Cruddas MP for Dagenham and Rainham pledged his support for the Communication Workers Union (CWU) #SaveOurPostOffice campaign. The campaign was launched by the CWU to halt the ‘franchising’ of 74 Crown Post Offices to WHSmith. If the move takes place it will mean 60 per cent of the Crown Network which existed in 2013 will be gone following years of incremental privatisation.

The Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, has announced the launch of a new initiative which will double the street outreach team and prepare severe weather shelters to open London-wide whenever freezing temperatures are forecast in a bid to help rough sleepers in the capital. Alongside this contactless donation points have been set up across London offering Londoners the chance to donate to homeless charity projects directly.

November is an important time of the year, deemed Men’s Health Awareness Month, to take a moment to discuss and raise awareness regarding men’s health. Over the past few years this month’s aims have become increasing more important and vital to the wellbeing of the constituency.

Every year, Jon Cruddas MP for Dagenham and Rainham marks International Day of Disabled People (IDDP). It is an important day when people come together to celebrate people with disabilities and the organizations which champion them. This year there will be a celebration of the contributions made by disabled people to life in Barking and Dagenham. This event will take place on Monday 3rd December 2018, from 1.00pm to 8.30pm, at the Dagenham and Redbridge Football Club, on Victoria Road in Dagenham RM10 7XL.

Over the past few weeks Jon’s constituency office has been filling up with thousands of bright, creative and innovative Christmas cards designed by pupils from all over of the constituency. The standard of the cards has improved yet again this year and with such an outstanding array it has taken many days, and night’s deliberation for Jon to finally decide on a winner.
