This week Jon Cruddas MP for Dagenham and Rainham pledged his support for the Communication Workers Union (CWU) #SaveOurPostOffice campaign. The campaign was launched by the CWU to halt the ‘franchising’ of 74 Crown Post Offices to WHSmith. If the move takes place it will mean 60 per cent of the Crown Network which existed in 2013 will be gone following years of incremental privatisation.

On Friday 12th December Jon Cruddas MP for Dagenham, Rainham, South Hornchurch and Elm Park visited Royal Mail’s Rainham Delivery Office ahead of the festive season. As everyone knows Christmas is the busiest time of year for the postal service, with a three to four per cent rise in letter traffic owing to the massive amount of Christmas cards. The office manager also highlighted that there can be a rise of up to ten per cent in parcel traffic at the sorting office.

A public meeting was held at Village Community hall with the Communication Workers Union (CWU), Local Councillors, representatives of the Post Office and Jon Cruddas MP to discuss the proposed privatisation of the Dagenham Heathway Crown Post Office.

For the past few months local residents of Dagenham have been voicing their opinions and concerns over the fate of the Dagenham Heathway Post Office. Jon Cruddas MP for Dagenham and Rainham has received many letters, emails and phone calls on the issue. A public meeting has now been arranged and will take place at: Dagenham Village Community Hall, Vicarage Road, RM10 9SD on Thursday 18th July from 5.30pm onwards.

Dog Awareness Week

Dog Awareness Week runs between 15th-19th July this year and aims at highlighting the dangers of vicious dog attacks across the country. This year the Communication Workers Union and the Royal Mail will be working together alongside dog owners to ensure that animals are kept under control when postmen/women call to deliver mail.
