Penguin, the book publisher, is on the lookout for new writers. ­Write Now is a programme which aims to find, mentor and publish new writers and illustrators from communities under-represented on the UK’s bookshelves. The programme includes a range of opportunities for budding writers and illustrators to get involved with including workshops and mentoring with Penguin’s own editors and designers for a year to develop a book or artwork.

Jon Cruddas MP is encouraging all local A-level students across Dagenham, Rainham, South Hornchurch and Elm Park to take part in the Political Studies Association (PSA)’s Schools’ Video Competition, now in its seventh year. 

A highlight in the PSA’s calendar of activities to engage young people in the study of politics, the annual film competition, sponsored by YouGov, is open to post-16 students who will be studying during the academic year 2017-18.
