Residents of the nine blocks of flats at Orchard Village South Hornchurch will soon hear from Clarion on how the housing association intend to deal with the external building cladding on the estate.

Jon Cruddas, MP for Dagenham and Rainham, has been informed that Clarion has received a report on the action needed to ensure that the buildings are safe from the spread of fire. The housing association, following consideration of the report, will then set out to tenants and shared owners the plan of action.

This week the Mardyke Community Centre in South Hornchurch announced it would receive a £20,000 grant from ‘Clarion Futures' the charity branch of Clarion Housing Group.

The community centre has played an important role in the lives of local residents at Orchard Village for many years. In normal times the Centre provides a range of community activities such as bingo evenings, IT classes, after school clubs, knit and natter sessions, and historically it has been the hub where residents of the estate seek advice, help, and support.

Last week Jon Cruddas MP was contacted by Clarion's Head of Housing regarding their approach to the Covid-19 crisis, and what that means for residents living on the Orchard Village estate in South Hornchurch.

Local residents have been informed that Clarion Housing Group has partnered with 5star UK housebuilder Hill to bring forward revised development plans for 90 New Road, Rainham. After a number of years of planning developers are keen to show the local community their enhanced proposals ahead of submitting a planning application to Havering Council. The new plans now include over 650 homes, 35% of which will be "affordable", six commercial spaces on the ground floor, car parking and landscaping throughout.
