Residents of the nine blocks of flats at Orchard Village South Hornchurch will soon hear from Clarion on how the housing association intend to deal with the external building cladding on the estate.

Jon Cruddas, MP for Dagenham and Rainham, has been informed that Clarion has received a report on the action needed to ensure that the buildings are safe from the spread of fire. The housing association, following consideration of the report, will then set out to tenants and shared owners the plan of action.

Four years on from the Grenfell Tower tragedy and ten years after the Lakanal House fire in which five people lost their lives, the Government has come forward with changes to fire safety law. Jon Cruddas MP supports this long-overdue Bill, but the Government must go further and faster on fire safety.

The debate in Parliament on Monday of this week brought by Labour MPs was of real importance to residents of Orchard Village South Hornchurch. The vote was to ask for the government to take action on the building cladding scandal, protect leaseholders from the massive costs of the work needed and to relieve the issue of unsaleable flats.
