Today marks the 75th anniversary of VE Day. On Tuesday 8 May 1945 Britain and the Allied Forces accepted the surrender of Nazi Germany and brought the Second World War to an end after nearly six years of fighting. 

Dagenham and Rainham has a long and proud service history and there is no doubt that under different circumstances VE Day would have been a vibrant and joyous celebration across the constituency.

Diwali, also known as the festival of lights was celebrated by the Havering Asian Social and Welfare Association (HASWA) at their community centre Greenfields, Kilmartin Way, Elm Park, Essex on Saturday 5th November 2016.  Young and old came together for celebrations along with guests MP for Dagenham & Rainham Jon Cruddas,  Deputy Mayor of Havering CouncillorLinda Van den Hende with Mr Laurence Chalk, Councillors Melvin Wallace, Stephanie Nunn & ,  Barry Mugglestone.  Mr  Fauja Singh the 105 year old marathon runner made a guest appearance.
