The Sycamore Trust has launched a new project for pre-school children across Barking & Dagenham, Havering and Redbridge. Starting in September 2018, “Speak With A Picture” has been funded by the BBC Children In Need and is aimed at pre-school children with a social communication disorder living within the listed borough’s.
The programme is aimed at predominantly non-verbal children or children with limited communication skills and uses the PECS system (Picture Exchange Communication System.) PECS is designed to provide individuals with the ability to share their own wants and needs.
The aim of the programme is for children and their families to develop communication skills that can be widely used every day.
The programme will be based at the Sycamore Trust UK in Dagenham. Families will be invited to attend 12 weekly sessions and the sessions will last approximately an hour each week. Each child will be taught by two Sycamore staff along with their parents.
If you are interested in this exciting new programme for your child, or if you’re a professional with a family that you feel would benefit from the programme, please contact the SWAP Team at SWAP@sycamoretrust.org.uk or telephone 020 8517 9317 for further information.
