‘Sleepless in Dagenham and Rainham’ –

MP’s second year on the Christmas card competition

Jon scouring through the thousands of entries from local schools

Following the great success of last year’s Christmas card competition, local MP Jon Cruddas is facing another few weeks with no sleep as he runs the competition for a second year. Many of the local schools from across Jons constituency have taken part this year seeing thousands of entries.

In the weeks running up to the competition final Jons office has slowly been filling up with a bright array of Christmas cards designed by students from all corners of the constituency; Dagenham, Elm Park, South Hornchurch and Rainham. The standard of the cards this year has been outstanding and after many days… And night’s deliberation Jon finally decided upon a winner and runner up from each school participating, and an overall winner with two overall runners up. There will be a presentation event to announce the winners that will be held on Friday 7th December.

Jon Commented: “It’s been another fantastic turnout; with more sleepless nights for me! I’ve been hard pressed to choose the winners this year as there were so many great cards. For the second year running now I’ve been up all night, surrounded by Christmas cards and pulling my hair out. The turnout this year was outstanding which makes it all worth it. So many schools have taken part and it’s encouraging to see local businesses supporting them.

“The prizes for the overall winners and runners up this year are extra special as the children have personally chosen what they would like. Instead of presenting pre-chosen prizes we wanted to give the winning pupils something that they really wanted for Christmas.”

Local businesses that have supported the competition this year include: Sanofi Aventis, Motex, Five star batteries, C2C , Waller Chemists at the Heathway, Thompson Solcitiors, Tesco, Dagenham & Redbridge FC, Woollens Estate Agents, Rainham Steel, Nicholas James Jewellers, LibertyCredit Union, Right Choice Insurance, West & Coe, West Ham United and The Outdoors - Army Surplus Rainham
