Improvement works at Rainham Road South will begin 10 March 2014 to make it easier for drivers and pedestrians accessing the former Sanofi site.
A new junction will be installed with new improved pedestrian crossings when work starts in March at the Reede Road/Dagenham East area at Rainham Road South.
During the improvement works, which are expected to last until June 2014, the Council is urging drivers to take alternative routes.
Throughout this period there will be temporary traffic lights allowing a contra flow system to operate along Rainham Road South and to control traffic into and out of Reede Road. The bus stops on either side of Rainham Road South just north of Reede Road will be out of use.
The roadworks by FM Conway on behalf of Sanofi are the latest phase in the regeneration of the Sanofi site which closed in December 2013 after 80 years of manufacturing. A new Sainsbury's supermarket and a Marstons Pub Restaurant have been confirmed at the front of the site which alone will create 500 new jobs.
The May and Baker sports facilities are being transferred to the May and Baker Eastbrook Community Club and the Council continues to work in partnership with Sanofi to secure the future of the science facilities, a new health centre and to attract businesses onto the remaining land.
Jon Cruddas MP said "The regeneration of the former Sanofi site is so important to Dagenham. It will bring new jobs and investment to the area as well as bolstering the science, business, manufacturing and retail base within Dagenham. I am excited about these developments and cannot wait to see it finished".
