Redevelopment of old Rainham Library

Since June 2015, Permission Homes Ltd have been in discussions with LB Havering regarding the redevelopment of the old Rainham Library. In January 2016, Permission Homes submitted plans to Havering Council to build 62 new homes in Broadway, Rainham. Since the news has broken to the public, Jon Cruddas MP has been inundated with concerns from Rainham residents. Residents are concerned about the impact this redevelopment will have on the local community. Schools are reaching full capacity and doctors' surgeries are under immense strain, another concern raised.

Rainham Village is a small village regularly used, and the residents are worried the construction of the redevelopment will cause a large amount of disruption to those who use Rainham Village daily.

Permission Homes Ltd are planning the demolition of existing buildings and the construction of 62 new homes comprising a mix of 20 houses and 42 apartments with associated access roads, parking, hardsurfacing, landscaping, boundary treatments, refuse stores, an electrical substation and means of access to and from Broadway.

The site has been allocated by LB Havering for residential development since 2008 which forms part of the borough's Development Plan. The site was also designated in 2016 within the LB Havering Rainham and Beam Park Planning Framework. The Rainham and Beam Park Planning Framework (the ?Planning Framework') was adopted by the borough in January 2016 following extensive consultation with key stakeholders and members of the public.

Jon Cruddas is urging Rainham residents to have their say on the recent proposals, you can do so by emailing planning@havering.gov.uk. The statutory neighbour notification period will run until 24th February for residents to submit their comments to the planning department. Any concerns you would like to raise with Havering Planning and Permission Homes please do so before the notification period ends.

Jon said: "I have contacted both Persimmon Homes and the council seeking assurances for safety measures during construction, I have also raised other concerns such as the potential strain on the local infrastructure once completed. I will be keeping a watching brief on this as plans move forward, but it is vitally important that residents have a say on these plans. I'm encouraging residents to email the planning department"
