Read Easy- reading coaching for adults

Jon Cruddas MP was recently contacted by Read Easy in regards to volunteering opportunities. Read Easy are also looking for a coordinator to join their services.

2.4 million adults in England alone cannot read at all or can barely read (this is over 5% of the working age population). Read Easy is a volunteer organisation that provides free and confidential one-to-one reading coaching for adults. Their vision is for all adults in the UK to have the literacy skills they need to fulfil their potential and live life to the full. Established in 2011, they are growing sustainably in communities across England before expanding into the rest of the UK in the coming years. Their priority is to establish new groups in larger conurbations where there is evidence of high numbers of adults with low literacy. There are around 80 Read Easy groups in England with 1,400 volunteers leading the groups and delivering reading coaching.

Becoming a Read Easy Coordinator or volunteer can be a very worthwhile and rewarding experience. Sharing your skills and time will mean that your local Read Easy group can deliver a high-quality coaching service to local adults who need to improve their reading skills.

If you are interested in volunteering for Read Easy, or would like to be referred to the service please contact bdleaer@readeasy.org.uk
