In February 2017 Jon Cruddas raised issues with Rainham Police regarding drifting and moped offences in Ferry Lane and Cold Harbour Lane, Rainham. Local police were aware of the situation, and on Friday 10th March 2017 they carried out ?operation Drifter' in which the operation involved Police, DVLA and The London Borough of Havering parking enforcement. They attended the location late on Friday 10th March and remained there until the early hours of the Saturday morning. During their time at the location, numbers of cars and motorcycles arrived on the scene.
Altogether they issued 20 Dispersal notices, issued 3 cannabis warnings and 2 PG9s (vehicle defects). They also managed to gather 17 VRM (vehicle registration mark) details of vehicles that left before they could stop them. Jon was informed that the registered keepers would be sent letters of warning through the post. Officers recorded this event on their body camera's and CCTV and went through the footage to see if they could deal with any other offences.
During a recent meeting that Jon's Havering Coordinator Fay Hough had with Rainham police, it was confirmed that 80+ letters were sent to registered keepers of vehicles and 97% of these vehicles have not been seen back at Ferry Lane/Cold Harbour Lane since with 3% of people informing the police that the vehicle no longer belongs to them. The police issued 30 notices of prosecution and at least 20 of these have been convicted.
This is a huge success for Rainham Police, and it's fantastic to see results of an issue that was effecting residents of Rainham who lived close to the above location.
