Paralympic Flame comes to Barking and Dagenham

We are pleased to announce that the Paralympic Flame will be passing through Barking and Dagenham on its journey to the Olympic Stadium for the Opening Ceremony of the Paralympic Games on Wednesday 29th August 2012.

The Torchbearers will begin their journey into the borough at 8.15pm beginning in BarkingPark and travelling along

Longbridge Road
, the Northern Relief Road and
London Road
. Following this route the torch will be leaving the borough at around 9.02pm. The above mentioned roads will be closed during the Torch Relay – motorists are being advised to avoid the area between 7.30pm and 9.00pm or to expect delays.


There is set to be a great mix of entertainment to welcome the torch to our borough. Barking Park will be host to a number of family based activities including face-painting for the kids, arts and crafts with lantern making in preparation for the evening flotilla. There will be a number of Paralympic sports challenges to get involved in and there is to be a large outdoor screen in the park which will be showing the Opening Ceremony later in the evening.

The festivities in BarkingPark get underway at 4.00pm.
