The proposed closure of the Dagenham Jobcentre was confirmed recently by the Department of Work and Pensions (DWP). The closure, which was announced in January, advised the Dagenham and Barking jobcentre offices to merge to provide, as they comment, “a more efficient service.” This merger will bring the Barking offices from 44 percent capacity to over 90 percent, along with some employees moving from East Ham.

On the 30th June 2017 Woolbro Homes, which hoped to develop 30 two and three-bed houses on Dovers Green in South Hornchurch, withdrew its application. This is fantastic news for the residents surrounding Dovers Green and is proof of what can be accomplished when the community comes together.

The total number of unemployed claimants in Dagenham and Rainham constituency in June 2017 was 1,690. This represents a rate of 3.3% of the economically active population aged 16-64, the 175th highest of the 650 UK constituencies. (1st = highest claimant rate, 650th = lowest claimant rate.) The equivalent UK claimant rate was 2.5%.

The UK unemployment rate, which includes people not claiming benefits and is estimated from survey data, was 4.5% between March and May 2017.

The national housing crisis continues to worsen in the capital. According to recently collected data, there are currently 738 houses in Havering that have been purposefully built for temporary accommodation, including 80 places in hostels. This is a 30 percent increase over the past 5 years, with 3 million pounds spent towards these temporary accommodations.

DAGFEST serves to bring music, street theatre, dance, and outdoor activities together for all families to enjoy. The Mayor of Dagenham, Barking and Dagenham Councillors, and Jon Cruddas MP have all attended the event in the past and highly encourage residents to attend.

This Saturday marks the 9th annual Armed Forces Day. Armed Forces Day is a significant event every year, it is a chance for communities across the country to support and pay tribute to all the service men and women past and present who work to keep our country safe.

Over the last few months Jon Cruddas was made aware of Havering Councils plans to build 30,000 properties across south Havering including on the green belt and flood plains. This was a major concern for the residents. Jon launched a petition against the plans which has so far accumulated over 1000 signatures.

This month’s General Election result in Dagenham and Rainham was a resounding victory for Labour in the constituency, which saw the collapse of UKIP. Whilst the majority slightly decreased, the share of the vote which Jon Cruddas claimed was an increase of 8.7 per cent. GE2017 recorded the highest voter turnout since the constituency was newly formed in 2010.
