Dagenham Heathway Public Space Protection Order Consultation

The Council and the Police have been dealing with antisocial behaviour complaints in the area around the shops and station on Dagenham Heathway. Following these complaints, the Council is consulting the public on a proposed Public Spaces Protection Order (PSPO) for this area.

Jon Cruddas MP for Dagenham and Rainham welcomed the consultation: "Over the last few years concerns about the Heathway have increased, with many residents contacting my office on a range of issues. Unsurprisingly crime in the area has risen since the Police Office was closed, but this Public Space Protection Order has the potential to bring the area back under control."

Public Spaces Protection Orders are used to control behaviour that is either having, or is likely to have, a harmful effect on a local community's quality of life. PSPOs put conditions or restrictions on an area which apply to everyone. They can be enforced by the police, council enforcement officers or other authorised officers. PSPOs can be put in place for up to three years.
