Jubilee Weekend in Dagenham and Rainham

Communities across Great Britain are preparing to celebrate a long bank holiday weekend for The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee, and there are a whole host of fantastic family events in both Barking and Dagenham and Havering.

In Barking and Dagenham the celebrations begin with Cockney Night and Official Beacon Lighting on Thursday 2 June at Abbey Green and Ruins in Barking, followed by Barking Folk Festival and a Jubilee Day jazz event on Saturday 4 June. Full details here: https://www.lbbd.gov.uk/summer-of-festivals

In Havering the celebrations start on Thursday 2 June in Havering-atte-Bower where the Dagenham Girl Pipers will perform ahead of the official Beacon Lighting ceremony carried out by the Mayor of Havering. There are also a series of garden parties over the weekend. Details of all the events can be found here: https://www.havering.gov.uk/events/20214/jubilee

In addition, local people across both boroughs, and the nation, are being encouraged to organise street parties. So, keep an eye out for community events near where you live.

Jon Cruddas MP said: “Queen Elizabeth has throughout the 70 years of her reign epitomised the highest standards of dignity and integrity. She has won Britain respect around the world and at times of tragedy in the life of the nation she has never failed to show empathy. Her Majesty The Queen continues to exemplify the very best in public service and is rightfully respected and much loved throughout the UK.”

He added: “There are some amazing events coming up across my constituency, both organised by the council and local people. This weekend will be an opportunity for neighbours to come together and celebrate. After two years of Covid this weekend is just what our community needs.”
