In November 2020 Jon Cruddas MP was contacted by patients of the Spring Farm GP surgery, which has operated for 30 years on Upminster Road North in Rainham, concerned about rumours the practice would close in 2021.
Jon Cruddas has now learned that the surgery is due to close at its current location in the next few weeks. Since November Jon has been running a campaign calling on the Government and NHS England to invest more into healthcare provision for south Havering. Jon’s response to confirmation of Spring Farm GP surgery relocation
“At a time when the health emergency brought about by Covid is at its most intense, the news of the relocation of the Spring Farm GP surgery in Upminster Road North in the next few weeks is particularly hard to accept.
“I have been tirelessly making the case for improvements to primary health care services across Rainham and South Hornchurch over the past few years. But rather than improvements we have seen repeated closures in the area – Mungo Park GP surgery, Mardyke, services in Rainham and now Spring Farm.
“I have called upon NHS England and the local Clinical Commissioning Group to invest in GP and primary health care services in our area and am continuing to do so. This has never been more vital when you see the pressure on Queens Hospital.
“In particular I am calling for:
- - Bringing forward the proposed Beam Park health centre, providing the full range of GP and community health services.
- - Provision of outreach and localised surgeries across Rainham and South Hornchurch so that older and vulnerable residents do not have to face difficult journeys.
- - Arrangements be put in place for residents who require repeat prescriptions to save them needing to visit the replacement health centres.
“In the meantime, residents can show their support by signing my petition calling for the above by clicking here: https://joncruddas.org.uk/hands-off-our-healthcare”
