This month MP for Dagenham and Rainham Jon Cruddas is launching a petition and campaign calling on the government for more investment in policing, and a new strategy/approach that takes account of and prioritises high crime areas in London.

This campaign comes as a response to rising violent crime across the Member of Parliaments’ constituency, with a focus on knife and moped related incidents over the past 12 months.

Jon Cruddas commented: “the bottom line is that we need more investment in our police. That is why this month I am launching a constituency wide campaign demanding better for Dagenham, Rainham, South Hornchurch and Elm Park. There has been a visible increase in violent crime and whilst the Mayor of London is doing what he can to support the Met, it is just a drop in the ocean compared with over £700m worth of Tory cuts to our frontline police since 2010.”

In November 2017 with the help of the community and over 5,000 signatures on a petition Jon Cruddas saved Dagenham Police Station from closure for a second time.

Jon said: “the police station was just the beginning of the campaign. There are more far reaching issues at play here with a clear correlation between falling police numbers and rising crime. The government must step up and give our police the support they need to keep our streets safe.”

You can sign Jon’s petition as part of his crime survey HERE

On Saturday 29 September Jon Cruddas will be officially launching the petition in Havering and the Dagenham launch will be on Saturday 27 October. Campaign packs will be available on request. To collect signatures down your street please email with your name and address and a subject line of CRIME AND POLICING PETITION

Jon added: “over the years the local community have achieved great things when it has come together with a single purpose. I’m urging residents of Dagenham, Rainham, South Hornchurch and Elm Park to get involved again; sign the petition, collect signatures down your street, share the online survey via social media.”
