You Can Save Me Campaign

This week Jon Cruddas MP has been contacted by a number of constituents raising awareness of the You Can Save Me campaign being led collaboratively by The Children's Society and the National Police Chiefs' Council. The campaign shines a light on the exploitative and abusive treatment of children during lockdown ? outlining how people can help report such behaviour.

Jon Cruddas supports the campaign and said: "the campaign material is very useful and helps to inform people how to recognise the signs of abuse and how best to report it. No child in our society should live with the fear of being exploited and communities must work together to raise awareness and inform authorities where necessary."

The campaign asks neighbours and key workers who may be visiting people's homes to do the following:

    • LOOK
  • - Guarded behaviour of a child around particular individuals.
  • - Sudden changes in behaviour.
  • - Children with bruises, burns, bite marks or fractures.
  • - Children appearing withdrawn, anxious, or frightened.
  • - Hearing or seeing shouting and violence towards a child.
  • - Children seen carrying or using drugs.
  • - Children being late or arriving home late in different cars.
  • - Unaccompanied children visiting a house where only adults live.
    • ACT
  • - Stay curious and look beyond the obvious.
  • - If something doesn't feel right, it might not be.
  • - Even if you're unsure, it's better to report your concerns.
  • - Do not attempt to intervene yourself.
  • - If you have a safeguarding manager/lead within your organisation, notify them immediately.
  • - Call the police on 101 or 999 in an emergency.
  • - Call the NSPCC on 0808 800 5000.
