UK Parliament Week 2018

UK Parliament Week is coming up in November, between the 12th to the 18th and Jon Cruddas, MP for Dagenham and Rainham, is encouraging everyone, especially young people to get involved in this event to engage and empower voters.

UK Parliament Week was initiated in 2011 and has every year since helped organise events for the campaign, to celebrate democracy and encourage active participation. It reached over 360,000 people in 2017, holding 4,500 events. Jon Cruddas has been engaged with this event from the beginning, calling on local students in 2012 to take part. This years Parliament Week is especially important as it falls 100 years since the first women and all men got the vote in 1918, demonstrating the importance of women in parliament and the voting booths.

This event encourages individuals and communities to consider what Parliament means to them and to explore how our democracy has been shaped through time and the role we play in it today. It is partnered with many organisations such as Brownies, Scouts and young citizens to galvanise the young people of the UK and show them how they can get involved.
