Bex Wilson is a Deputy Head Teacher at an inner-city Primary School in Leeds. In 2017, whilst teaching an 11-year-old boy, she noticed he wasn’t his usual happy self, so she asked if he was feeling tired. His response and that moment, not that she knew it at the time, were about to change both her life and his. ‘Miss, I am always tired. I don’t have a bed.’
The Rainham Foodbank is part of the Trussell Trust network of foodbanks and has operated in the area for many years. Jon Cruddas MP and his team have worked closely with the foodbank over the years, and are a referral agency. Compared to five years ago, the need for foodbanks in the Trussell Trust network has increased by 128%.
This month, Jon Cruddas MP’s team had the pleasure of meeting with Dagenham Foodbank. Dagenham Foodbank is part of the Trussell Trust which is a charity that works to end the need for food banks in the UK. The Trussell Trust supports a network of over 1200 foodbank centres to provide emergency food and compassionate, practical support to people in crisis, while campaigning for the long-term change to the structural issues that lock people into poverty.
