I say it after every Budget over these past 14 years, but what we have been given is more smoke and mirrors. Like previous Tory Budgets it will yet again be working people who fall foul of the Government’s sleight of hand and the services we all depend on will further deteriorate. People will conclude that 14 years has led to the country being worse off and living standards for working people have worsened.
Jon Cruddas MP was contacted by a local resident last week calling for him to support the United for Warm Homes campaign. United for Warm Homes is a campaign made up of hundreds of community groups across the UK. The campaign is calling for permanent solutions to our broken energy system, starting with home insulation. Over 9 million UK households are living in badly insulated homes and have incomes too low to afford the basics, like heating and food.
Jon Cruddas MP has welcomed news that at last action is being taken on the scandalously high building insurance costs that have been forced on leaseholders and shared owners. Jon has mounted a campaign on behalf of leaseholders of apartments in Dagenham and Rainham to cut the premiums being charged by insurance companies and then recharged by the buildings owners to leaseholders in inflated service charges.
Jon Cruddas MP and Labour’s Prospective Parliamentary Candidate for Dagenham and Rainham, Margaret Mullane, have commented on the shocking levels of homelessness affecting Havering and Barking and Dagenham and the terrible impact across England. Jon and Margaret have put forward the need for urgent action to bring the problem under control and relieve the suffering being experienced by families as well as reduce the financial pressures on local councils.
Jon Cruddas MP has been contacted in regard to the annual "Daggers Celebrate Diversity Day". The Diversity Day will take place on Saturday 24th February 2024 and Daggers will be playing FC Halifax Town in the Vanarama National League, kicking off at 3pm.
Jon Cruddas MP has been in touch with The London Riverside Church, Parsloes Avenue, Dagenham, RM9 5PT.
The church has been of great support to many of Jon’s constituents over the years. They run several community groups as well as operating a Baby Bank and “Store City”- their foodbank.
There are currently some items for the foodbank that would be particularly welcomed:
Jon Cruddas MP has recently been contacted by Lara Grill, 20 Whalebone Lane South, Dagenham, RM8 1BJ. They have been nominated for being Best Turkish Cuisine in South East London.
Turkish cooking enjoys worldwide popularity and stands for pure indulgence and the joy and passion for food. Its secret is that its variety of flavours evokes the heritage of a multitude of cultures. Lara Grill. That is where the Greeks, Romans, Byzantines, Arabs, Normans and Swabians came ashore, all leaving their marks and influencing the cultural development of this fair place.
Jon Cruddas is calling on anyone who isn’t vaccinated to urgently come forward to get their measles (MMR) vaccine amid rising cases in the West Midlands and concerns of a rapid outbreak in London in coming weeks if action is not taken.
