MP Launches Dagenham CPZ Consultation

Over the last few weeks Jon Cruddas MP has been contacted by hundreds of local residents across Dagenham, including but not exclusive to the Rylands Estate, raising their concerns about the Controlled Parking Zone being introduced in the area by Barking and Dagenham Council.

The overriding message from residents is that they are concerned about the implications on personal finances, lack of proper consultation and communication between the council and community, and the necessity of a parking scheme in their particular areas.

The borough wide parking zone has received a mixed response from residents with areas such as Chadwell Heath and estates close to Whalebone Lane South calling for their implementation, where others are actively resisting their introduction.

Jon Cruddas MP said: "The impression I am getting is that my constituents do not feel like they are being heard by the council. There are allegations of poor communication, and that the consultation process is not fit for purpose as it is primarily online and excludes many from the conversation.

"I have been liaising with the council on this issue. It is my job to make sure that I fully understand the views of local people and take appropriate action to represent them. That is why I am launching my own consultation on the Controlled Parking Zone scheme."

Jon Cruddas MP has launched an online survey and will also be sending a paper copy to every home on the Rylands Estate and other affected areas in the coming weeks. The responses will be collated and will inform the MPs next steps on this issue.
