It is that time of year again, where I wish everyone across my Dagenham & Rainham constituency a Merry Christmas and all the best for a happy, healthy, and prosperous New Year.
I know that 2023 has been a tough year for many. The mortgage rate bombshell, energy prices soaring, and the cost-of-living crisis all hitting working families in areas like ours hardest. Thirteen years under a Tory government has left Britain balancing on a cliff edge. But there is hope.
The coronation of King Charles demonstrated to the world the pageantry and history of our nation and, like the Platinum Jubilee the previous year, it showed the strength of community in Britain. There were street parties all across the constituency and, despite the challenges faced by local families, people came together to share food and celebrate the start of a new era in British history.
In all likelihood this will be the last Christmas message I share as the Member of Parliament for Dagenham & Rainham, and I want to use this opportunity to say it has been the honour of my life to serve this community. Dagenham & Rainham really is a special place, and I will always have fond memories of the local characters and the battles we have all fought together over the years.
There will be a general election next year and, I hope, a new Labour Government. Nationally if successful Labour will be inheriting a mess, but here in this constituency Labour are already delivering the opportunities of tomorrow. The film studios at Dagenham East are nearly complete, and London’s three historic markets are on the way, bringing good skilled jobs back to the area.
I want to put on public record my thanks to all those who make our community what it is. The faith groups, youth organisations, charities, and volunteers – including my own volunteers whose support is invaluable, and also to our key workers. Thank you to all those who will be working through the holidays to keep the cogs turning.
The best gift we can give to working families this Christmas is the promise of a transformational Labour Government who will get Britain’s future back and deliver the recognition and hope people need and deserve. In the meantime, I wish all my constituents a peaceful festive season.
My office will be closed 20/12 – 08/01 but emergency casework will still be undertaken. You can also find a list of useful and emergency contacts HERE
