Mayor of London grants £850,000 to Dagenham community project

As part of the recent Borough of Culture award, Mayor of London Sadiq Khan also granted £24 million to support projects that promote regeneration across the city.

Participatory City Foundation have secured £850,000 from the Mayor to invest in a 3,000 square meter community workshop that will be situated at Dagenham East joining the future film studio on the old Sanofi Aventis site.

The warehouse which is part of the projects second phase will house a metal workshop, wood workshop, digital space, fabric workshop, an industrial kitchen, meeting rooms and a large community co-working area. The idea is one of sustainability, skill sharing, and above all community participation ? something that Dagenham has historically been famed for.

Jon Cruddas MP for Dagenham and Rainham said: "congratulations to the Every One Every Day project, I have been a huge supporter of this since it landed in the borough last year and have watched it go from strength to strength. The launch day in November saw over 400 residents getting involved with community activities, a fantastic achievement.

"Having seen the plans, including the warehouse funded by the Mayor of London, I'm excited to see where the project will take the borough ? revitalising a sense of community spirit."

Sadiq Khan commented: "I want to give all Londoners ? regardless of background ? the opportunity to be actively involved in their city and have more places to live, learn, work and play. The projects I announced funding for today will help us to tackle inequality, strengthen civil society, and ensure the benefits of regeneration are felt by all."

The Every One Every Day project has already established two smaller workshops in the borough and hold regular events every week.
