LBBD Holiday Activities and Food Programme Replaces FSM Voucher

Jon Cruddas MP was recently contact by many concerned residents who were struggling to obtain “Free School Vouchers” for the upcoming school holidays. After further investigation, it transpires that due to further Government Cuts, Free School Vouchers have now been axed, not only in the London Borough of Barking and Dagenham, but nationwide. Funding ceased by the Central Government means these vouchers have not been accessible since the end of February half-term.

Jon has liaised with the London Borough of Barking and Dagenham Council in regard to these issues. As a Local Authority, to support families in the half term, there is a new programme called the “Holiday Activities and Food Programme”, whereby if your child is entitled to free school meals, you can get them involved in the programme. Children aged between 5 and 16 can choose from a range of free exciting activities with healthy meals included alongside.

Jon Cruddas MP: “It is thoroughly disappointing that the Central Government have cut funding for Free School Meal Vouchers. Once again, these cuts from the Tories are affecting the most vulnerable and poorest communities. The Government must urgently address these issues and the cost-of-living crisis they have created. Nevertheless, it is great to see the local authority making arrangements to support the community and those in need. I would encourage any constituents of mine who are eligible, to sign up for the LBBD Holiday Activities and Food Programme."
