To celebrate the launch of the new Rainham Post Office, Jon Cruddas MP for Dagenham and Rainham ?cut the ribbon' at an opening ceremony at 2:30pm Friday 27 June 2014.

Jon Cruddas MP said: "I welcomed the news that Rainham Post Office was to be modernised to create a bright modern open-plan branch, and am delighted to be here today to congratulate Tarsame Singh on her hard work and to formally declare the new Rainham Post Office open.

He added: "The Post Office is vital to the community around Rainham and I'm sure the new improved office, and the longer opening hours, will be warmly welcomed by all of my constituents."

As part of Post Office plans to modernise the network and extend opening hours for customers, the new Rainham Post Office at 77 ? 79 Wennington Road, Rainham RM13 9TH. The branch has three serving positions two are modern screened positions and the other is a Post Office serving point at the retail counter where most Post Office transactions can be made throughout shop opening hours. The same wide range of Post Office services are still on offer.

The new-look Rainham Post Office is open Monday and Thursday; 06:00-19.00; Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday; 06:00-19:30; Sunday; 06:00-13:00. This gives customers an extra 41 hours of service every week, including Sunday opening.

Post Office operator Tarsame Singh who runs the branch said: "I was delighted to have the opportunity to open the new-look branch and I am very pleased to be officially launching it today for the community. I hope our customers like their new Post Office and I'm thrilled Jon Cruddas has found time in his busy schedule to come here today. I'd like to sincerely thank my staff for the success of this Post Office. They have been a great support to me and I would not be here without them. I'd also like to thank the local community for their continued support and use of the branch."

Nationwide the investment programme will see up to 8,000 branches modernised with additional investment in over 3,000 community and outreach branches.

The Post Office, now independent of Royal Mail, is the largest retail network in the UK, with over 11,500 branches. It is also one of the fastest growing financial services companies and is developing its online and telephony services.
