Jon Cruddas MP visited Dagenham's The Golden Fish on Friday and handed over a bottle of champagne to the owners and staff to celebrate their being named best chip shop in the whole of the South East of England.
The Golden Fish is a family-run business, the present owner Jason Aiken took over from his father-in-law Jim Plows who started the business over forty-six years ago. It has long been a Dagenham landmark offering quality fish and chips to over five thousand customers a week.
The forty-seat restaurant was one of 840 restaurants to enter the competition nationally and received its share of the 62,000 votes cast.
Jon Cruddas MP said ?In this difficult economic climate, it's great to see a local business doing so well and putting Dagenham on the map for excellence. Having eatrn their fish and chips before, i think they should win the national award next year".
