International Day of People with Disability 2015

This Thursday 3rd December is International Day of People with Disability and will mark the 13th year of raising awareness in the borough. As this is the 50th anniversary of the London Borough of Barking & Dagenham there will be a special theme for the day. This year will see the Barking and Dagenham Progress Project highlight 50 years of disability access, health and social care, benefits, education and sport.

Each theme tells a different story of changing attitudes and progression. The event this year is taking place at Dagenham & Redbridge FC on Victoria Road, Dagenham. It starts at 14.00pm with different organisations from across the borough helping to raise awareness with information stalls and speeches.

It isn't a wholly formal occasion though, with performances, sports and art activities, a young person's disco, and a very special closing performance by Sweet Chix who performed on last year's Britain's Got Talent at 19.00pm.

Jon Cruddas MP for Dagenham & Rainham commented: "It is great to see the International Day of People with Disability being incorporated into the boroughs 50th anniversary celebrations, making it bigger than ever. This is an excellent initiative which I hope will go a long way in raising awareness across the local area about disability access, and the wider issue of health and social care."
