Dagenham Flood Update

Following the flash floods over the weekend Jon Cruddas MP has been speaking to residents in Dagenham that were affected. It seems that there were very few severe incidents compared to those in the south of Havering, with the most widespread problem being caused to roads.

Jon has been liaising between the residents that suffered damage to their properties and Barking and Dagenham Council to get them the support they need.

An update was provided by the Council Leader today in light of the ongoing work;

"I would like to put on record my thanks to the incident response team of the council and the London Fire Brigade for supporting residents yesterday with the flooding that happened in a number of locations across the borough.

All roads were opened by last night and the vast majority of residents have not been affected by the torrential downpour.

Obviously, the team are still on high alert because of the weather forecast of more sudden downpours. I've seen a lot of misinformation on social media so let's be clear we have flood break areas like Beam Park and Parsloes Park which have worked perfectly. I would ask all residents to also appreciate that the drainage system is not set up for torrential downpours like we've had in the last 24 to 48 hours, so water backing up is not unusual when the Thames is high.

Lastly, I would like to thank all residents, who supported their neighbours when asked to do so yesterday, together we will keep everyone safe."

Jon Cruddas MP said: "I received many calls and emails over the weekend from Dagenham residents, and I will continue to work with the council in the coming days to make sure that any vulnerable constituents that need support are attended to. I also want to echo the Council Leader in thanking the Fire Brigade for their prompt response and the fantastic job they have done. If any resident needs additional support or advice as a result of flooding please get in touch."
