Bricklaying Forterra Females (BFF) Competition, Rainham

On the first day of National Apprenticeship week next week, Monday 4th March, Havering College of Further and Higher Education - Rainham Campus, will be hosting the Bricklaying Forterra Females (BFF) competition, the first all-female competition of its kind in the UK.

The aim of the competition is to find the best female apprentice and student bricklayers in the country whilst highlighting their presence in a male-dominated industry. Havering College hopes that the competition will also encourage more females to consider bricklaying and other construction trades as a career option.

The competition will be held at the Rainham construction campus and will kick off at 9am, with the winners being announced at 4pm.

With industry support from the Brick Development Association (BDA) the Association of Brick Contractors (AofBC), this event will welcome students from colleges all over the UK (a maximum of two students per college applies).

Jon Cruddas MP said: "I think this is a fantastic competition for female bricklayers around the UK. It's great to see a local college promoting gender neutral trades, stamping out the stigma that females are unable to work in such a male dominated industry. I wish all the competitors taking part the best of luck and congratulate Havering College on hosting the first ever competition of its kind in the UK."
