Havering Council is currently holding budget consultations to address the 2019-2020 financial budget priorities. The budget consultation will take place until 30 September 2018.

Each year the Council sets a budget and decides how much they can afford to spend on services for Havering residents and businesses for the next financial year. They must also determine how much income is required from the government and Council Tax to fund this.

Havering Council are facing a dramatic reduction in the amount of Revenue Support Grant they receive from the central government. Havering’s Medium Term Financial Strategy (MTFS) indicates that without remedial action there will be a budget gap of more than £37 million over the next four years. The Council must set a balanced budget for the 2019-2020 financial year by the middle of March 2019. This must include a strategy to deal with the budget gap over the next three financial years.

The Council tends to prioritise the services that are demand driven such as Children’s Services, Adult Social Care Services, and Housing. Although these are the services the Council prioritises, they work hard to provide all the key services that residents need or want. To influence what services the Council prioritises residents can attend one of the many budget consultation meetings being held through September.

The next consultation will be on Wednesday 29 August from 6:30-8pm in Harold Wood at the library. The address is Arundel Road Harold Wood RM3 0RX. Following that there will be one on Friday 31 August 10-11:30pm in Romford in the Town Hall at the address Main Road Romford RM1 3BD.

The outcomes of this consultation will be presented at Cabinet on 14 November 2018 when Council looks at arrangement for the budget.

Your views are important to the Havering Council. The feedback you give will help the Council decide which services they prioritise. You can submit your proposals at a consultation or online. In addition to the online survey there will also be paper copies of the budget consultation available to pick up in all local libraries and from the Town Hall.
