Havering College Rainham - Brand New Construction Centre

An exciting new venture is due to be approved on Thursday 21st of September, which will see plans for a new 'Construction and Infrastructure Skills and Innovation Centre', for Havering College Rainham campus. The plans will go before Havering Council's regulatory services committee for hopefully the final time Thursday evening. The application has been on hold since April 2015, and has finally been progressed to committee, following the receipt of revised information which was received in February 2017 and April 2017.

The new facility would provide a series of classrooms and specialised workshops associated with construction and infrastructure skills. The proposal would also deliver a section of the strategic Rainham east-west cycle/pedestrian path.

The proposal was refused at a committee meeting on 29 June 2017, as Members raised concerns about the use of Passive Close as an access road. In comparison, this application has been amended to further reduce the potential amount of traffic using Passive Close.

The centre will be jointly funded by the Greater London Authority and Havering College itself, and it is estimated the new centre will contribute more than £30m to Rainham's local economy over the next ten years.

Alongside this exciting news, Havering College has been awarded ?career college status' for constructing and engineering. This means the college will specialise in equipping 14-19 year olds will skills they will need to succeed within their industry of work. Employers are bought on board to have their input and help shape the curriculum which will lead to students being able to secure work when they finish their courses.

Jon Cruddas MP said:

"The new centre is an exciting new development for Rainham, that guarantees to bring money to our local economy. I welcome the plans, as long as both Havering Council and Havering College work alongside residents, in particular residents of Passive Close, to ensure the neighbouring community is not affected by planning or construction issues."
