Jon Cruddas MP held the first meeting of the Rainham flood action working group on Monday 8th March. The meeting was attended by senior officers from Havering Council, Thames Water, Environmental Agency, and Network Rail.
The purpose of the meeting was to ensure all agencies are working together to protect Rainham from future floods. Updates were given on works that have been recently carried out by Thames Water and others.
The Council will produce a report in May on lessons learned from floods in Rainham village that caused damage to homes in the Penerley Road area and in particular Brookway, South Hall Drive and Eastwood Drive.
Jon Cruddas MP: "This was a productive first meeting. My intention is that an action plan of coordinated works for the Council, Thames Water, Environment Agency and Network Rail will be produced to protect homes across Rainham. I will be following up by convening quarterly meetings of the group to make sure progress is made.
It's essential that no new developments take place in the south of Havering without the full assessment of potential flood risks and that flood mitigation work is included so that the existing community is not impacted."
