The award winning annual 'non contact' LBBD funded Summer Boxing Scheme is being run again this year - for 2 weeks. The dates for each of the 4 courses are age specific:
- Course no.1 - 5th & 6th August 2013 - 8-11 years 10am - 1.30pm
- Course no.2 - 7th & 8th August 2013 - 11-14 years 10am - 1.30pm
- Course no.3 - 12th & 13th August 2013 - 14-17 years 10am - 1.30pm
- Course no.4 - 14th & 15th August 2013 - 8-17 years 10am - 1.30pm
The Courses are 2 days of 4 hours and each day, and ALL participants will be presented with a T-Shirt, certificate/medal. Three 'Special Awards' will also be presented to each of the groups by VIP's, Local Boxing stars and Senior Police, and this will fast track them into the Boxing Clubs existing evening groups. As it's a completely NON CONTACT program which is a very basic introduction to the sport of amateur boxing, there is no pass/fail (everyone effectively passes) - but only those who wish to move onto Full Contact sparring (with parental consent) will be offered places at the clubs existing classes.
The two days will be filled with a variety of fun activities using all the common training aids provided at this ABA affiliated Boxing Gym, but the core focus will be basic boxing techniques (stance/guard/footwork/punch delivery). The usual Risk Assessments, Child Safeguarding (Enhanced CRB clearance) and Liability Insurance is in place and the Scheme is approved by the National Governing Body for Amateur Boxing. THIS IS THE REAL BOXING PROGRAM OF THE SUMMER - approved by the National Governing Body for amateur boxing, with existing opportunities for those who attend to join this fully affiliated/registered amateur boxing club upon conclusion.
All the Coaches are First Aid qualified and hold qualifications at Level 2 or above in the delivery of contact/non contact Boxing Coaching.
Within each course, there will be an input from a Youth Safety organisation (Be Safe) which will cover age related topics - such as 'Gangs/Weapons/Personal Safety Online' etc.
The courses are all completely FREE - with no cost at all. Kids just need to bring along a light packed lunch and a bottle of water etc.
