Council cuts teen unemployment

The Financial Times today cites Barking and Dagenham's Labour council as one of the most innovative local authorities in Britain for combatting teen unemployment.

Reporting on the handful of local councils that had bucked the national trend and consistently reduced the number of young people not in education, employment or training (NEET), the paper praised the borough's initiative to identify "NEET risks" early on and provide support.

The model looks at a range of factors in assessing individual children and ensures that those at risk are given help that they need to stay in education, get training or find a paying job.
